One of the trips in the new Secrets book, Eastern Shore Road Trips 2: 26 More One-Day Adventures on Delmarva, is a journey through the remote backroads of Dorchester County, Md., with visits to a pair of historic islands, Hoopers and Taylors.
Jim Duffy, the author of all the Secrets of the Eastern Shore books, recently went on WBOC-TV’s Good Day Delmarva to talk about a memorable moment in Hoopers Island history–the day in 1980 when legendary local character Tom Flowers (aka “The Old Honker”) delivered what may be the greatest ribbon-cutting invocation in the history of the world.
