Storyteller Jim Duffy of Secrets of the Eastern Shore will share fun and fascinating “Tales of Delmarva” days gone by in a talk sponsored by the Cecil County Library at 6:30pm on Thu., May 9, 2024 at the library’s Elkton branch.

Duffy is an award-winning writer and author of five books that explore travel, history and culture themes on the Eastern Shore and in Delaware. Among his books are two popular collections of “Eastern Shore Road Trips” and “Tubman Travels,” about following in the footsteps of Underground Railroad heroes.

A 20-year resident of Cambridge, Md., Duffy founded the homegrown business Secrets of the Eastern Shore with his wife, photographer Jill Jasuta. Their goal is to celebrate the rich heritage and natural beauty of Delmarva Peninsula in ways that inspire people to get out and explore its towns, beaches, and backroads.

Duffy has given storytelling presentations along these lines in dozens of towns up and down the peninsula in recent years. He appears regularly on the WBOC-TV show, DelmarvaLife, telling “Throwback Thursday” tales. This storytelling journey will hop from one town to another on the peninsula, touching here and there on big developments in history while focusing on personal stories of triumph, struggle, and community-mindedness. He will likely share some of his wandering “Secrets” as well.

Duffy will have copies of his books on hand for sale after the talk. Audience members are also welcome to bring previously purchased copies of Secrets of the Eastern Shore books to the event for an autograph.

The free session is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm. The Elkton branch is located at 301 Newark Ave. For information, visit CecilCountyLibrary.org or call (410) 996-5600.
