Here is your guide to fun fun events and parties during the 2023 holiday season. Think small-town block parties, holiday home tours, Victorian soirees, musical delights, and much more. The first section is reserved for events that run across multiple upcoming weeks. Below that come events that are organized in day-by-day fashion from now through Christmas.

Stroll downtown Berlin during evening Sip and Shop outings every Friday up to Christmas. Details.

Nov. 5 through Dec. 30
The historic Wilmington and Western Railroad has three different old-school train rides with holiday themes. The Ice Princess Express, runs Sun., Nov. 5 and Sun., Nov. 12. The Santa Claus Express runs Fri., Nov. 24 through Sat., Dec. 23. And the Holiday Lights Express runs Wed., Dec. 6 through Sat., Dec. 30

Nov. 16 to Dec. 31
The Ocean City Convention Center has a big holiday train display. Details.

Nov. 18 to Dec. 31
The magical Christmas village of Schellvile is back, Nov. 18 to Dec. 31 in Rehoboth Beach, Del. This “enchanted winter celebration” started out several years ago as a display of decorated miniature homes, but now encompasses train rides, an ice rink, a beer garden, a “maze of lights,” elf houses, a “snow zone”, retro-arcade room, a “Magical Maze,” a 30-foot tall tubing/sledding hill, and an outdoor bar sponsored by The Starboard. Nov. 18 to Jan. 7
Bask in the high life of days gone during Christmas at Winterthur. Henry Francis du Pont’s former mansion in Wilmington, Del. will be decked out in full holiday splendor between Nov. 18 and Jan. 7. Nov. 24 through Dec. 3
The Second Street Players of Milford, Del. are putting on “A Christmas Carol: The Musical,” Nov. 24-Dec. 3. Details.

Christmas Garden of Trains in Cambridge, MarylandNov. 24 through Dec. 10
Clear Space Theatre in Rehoboth Beach, Del. is putting on “Estella Scrooge,” Nov. 24-Dec. 10. It imagines Ebeneezer’s great-great-granddaughter reliving her ancestor’s travails in the present day. Details.

Fridays Nov. 24 through Dec. 22
In Cape Charles, Va. they throw a party every Friday evening between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Festive Fridays. Here is the best place to keep up with what entertainment and fun is happening on which of these Festive Fridays.

Nov. 24 through Jan. 1
In addition to the lights and decor at the first du Pont family home built in America, the Holidays at Hagley at the Hagley Museum in Wilmington, Del. will have Santa’s Workshop and a gingerbread house display. Nov. 24-Jan. 1. Details.

The traditional Holiday Trains display at the Seaford (Del.) Museum runs from Nov. 24 to Jan. 14. Details.

Nov. 25 through Dec. 3
Historic Trimper Rides in Ocean City, Md. has its Christmas Carnival running over two weekends, Nov. 25/26 and Dec. 2/3. In addition to carnival attractions, there will be Santa visits, vendors, and holiday music. Details.

Nov. 30 through Dec. 10
The Milton (Del.) Theatre has a production of “The Sound of Music,” Nov. 30-Dec. 10. Details.

Dec. 1 through Dec. 10
The Possum Point Players in Georgetown, Del. are putting on “The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus” on the weekends of Dec. 1-3 and 8-10. Details.

Ice Sculpture Santa ClausFridays and Saturdays Dec. 1 to Dec. 16
Visit Whoville Village Holiday Park, a tradition in Greensboro, Md. Light displays, live-action characters, vendors, refreshments and more. Details.

Dec. 1 to Dec. 30
The annual holiday train garden at the Pocomoke River Canoe Company in Snow Hill, Md. will be open Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons, Dec. 1 to Dec. 30. Details.

Dec. 1 to Dec. 31
• The Rescue Fire Company Train Garden is a tradition in Cambridge, Md. that goes back 89 years. Open daily through December in the historic old firehouse on Gay Street. Details.

• The Ocean City, Md. branch of the Worcester County Library has a Garden of Trains display up all month as well. Details.

Dec. 2 to Dec. 17
The Tilghman Island Watermen’s Museum will have its annual train garden up and running on the weekends of Dec. 2/3, 9/10, and 16/17. Free admission and a handcrafted “Christmas village, too.” Details in the top left block here.

Dec. 2 to Dec. 23
Santa visits and free carriage rides will be part of the downtown Berlin, Md. experience on the weekends of Dec. 2/3, 9/10, and 16/17. Sat., Dec. 23 too. Details.

Dec. 7 to Dec. 17
See a community production of “Elf the Musical” at the Avalon Theatre in Easton, Md., Dec. 7-17. Details.

Dec. 10 to Dec. 23
The Milton (Del.) Theatre is going all out for the holidays in this window–shows featuring the holiday music of Duke Ellington, Barry Manilow, the Rat Pack, a brass band, and more. Schedule here.

Sat., Nov. 11
The Christmas Arts and Crafts Festival in Pocomoke City, Md. is Sat., Nov. 11. Santa will be holding court in front of the Grand Fireplace at the Community Center. Details.

Fri., Nov. 24
• The ICE ICE party in Berlin, Md. will have 30-plus lighted ice sculptures all over the downtown with late shopping and other fun. The town’s tree lighting is that night, too. Details.

• The Dewey Beach (Del.) Sip and Shop extravaganza is a three-day post-Thanksgiving affair, Nov. 24-26. Details.

Sat., Nov. 25
• Celebrate A Farmer’s Christmas at the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover, Del. on Sat., Nov. 25. The historic buildings on the museum campus will be decorated for the holidays. Inside the museum, there will be caroling, cookies, craft projects, artisan demos, and more. Details. Event is also Sat., Dec. 9, and Sat., Dec. 16.

Christmas Caroling• Enjoy Carols by Candlelight by various local choral groups, bell ringers, and musicians in Easton, Md. on Sat., Nov. 25. Details.

Audrey Christmas Tree• This year’s Dickens of a Christmas weekend in Chestertown, Md. is Fri/Sat Dec. 1/2. The town goes all 1840s London with bonfires, oysters, live music, carriage rides, home tours, book talks, and more. Victorian costumes encouraged. Details.

• Visit Frosty’s Village at the Talbot County Courthouse in Easton, Md. to enjoy kids crafting, cider, cocoa, and more. Big screen showing “Frosty’s Winter Wonderland.” Plus, photos with Frosty! Details.

• Easton, Md. has its Moonlight Madness shopping extravaganza on Fri., Dec. 1. Music and entertainment in various spots along downtown streets, with shops open late. Details.

• A tour of 18th- and 19th-century homes decorated for the holidays highlights the Christmas in Odessa festivities on Sat., Dec. 2. Concerts, carousel rides, holiday greens, Santa visits, and more. Details.

• The famous Midnight Madness shopping and partying extravaganza in St. Michaels, Md. happens this year on Sat., Dec.2. Details.

Christmas Events on the Delmarva Peninsula 2018• This year’s Dickens of a Christmas weekend in Chestertown, Md. is Fri/Sat Dec. 1/2. The town goes all 1840s London with bonfires, oysters, live music, carriage rides, home tours, book talks, and more. Victorian costumes encouraged! Details.

• The holiday festivities in Rock Hall, Md. on Sat., Dec. 2 include Santa arriving by boat and the lighting of the downtown crab basket Christmas tree followed by s’mores at the campfire and Santa visits. A boat parade is planned, too. Scroll to the date here for details.

• Head to Milford, Del. on Sat., Dec. 2 for a pair of Christmas events–the Holiday Stroll through downtown shops and the Christmas Market featuring local artisan vendors. Details.

• The Mount Harmon Plantation near Earleville, Md. has its Yuletide Festival & Holiday Marketplace on Sat., Dec. 2. Details. Also on Sun., Dec. 3.

• Enjoy Christmas in Whitehaven (Md.) Day on Sat., Dec. 2. A Christmas bazaar, holiday decor, refreshments (sweet potato biscuits and scrapple sandwiches!), and kids activities, including time with Santa. Details.

• The Christmas on the Creek festivities in Oxford, Md. run Friday through Sunday, Dec. 1-3. A bazaar of holiday goods, a cookie tour, Santa’s arrival, tree lighting, caroling, and more. Details.

• On Sat. Dec. 2 the Treasure Chest shop in Oxford, Md. has a demo/showcase by Jonathan King, an artist who specializes in restoring calliopes to working order. You’ll be able to see, hear and learn about that old-school instrument, 1-3pm. Details.

• Princess Anne, Md. will celebrate Christmas in old-fashioned fashion on Sat., Dec. 2. Costumed characters and strolling musicians will wander downtown. Food and craft vendors, plus the event below. Read the text here for details.

• The Somerset County (Md.) Historical Society is putting on a Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes culminating in a Candlelight Reception at Teackle Mansion in Princess Anne, Md. on Sat., Dec. 2. Details.

• The Christmas in Ridgely (Md.) Winter Festival is a big family-oriented production with lots of fuh–carriage rides, vendors, skating, ice sculptures, light displays (including the fun Twinkle Tunnel), wandering storybook characters, and more. Details.

• Last I looked they didn’t have details up yet for the Milton (Del.) Holly Festival on Sat., Dec. 9, which celebrates the rich history of the hand-crafted wreath business in that area and earned the town the nickname “The Land of Holly.” Expect food, vendors, house tours, and more. Details might appear here soon. Or there may be more info here at some point.

• The festivities during Christmas in St. Michaels, Md. weekend Dec 8-10 include holiday music, the Tour of Homes, breakfast with Santa, a boat parade, the Talbot Street parade, the firing of the cannons, a community supper, and more. Details.

• Celebrate Christmas in Onancock on the weekend of Dec. 8-10.  Whole weekend schedule here. The Saturday lineup includes at Christmas Tour of Homes, Santa’s arrival by water behind a team of reindeer kayaks, and an evening Christmas Music Festival.

• Meander from one B&B to another in the Cape Charles Historic District, following the Cookie Trail on Sat., Dec. 9. House tours are part of the deal. Details.

• Take a dip in the Choptank River for a good cause on Sat., Dec. 9 at the Care & Share Santa Swim at the Hyatt resort in Cambridge, Md. Details.

• The Christmas on Pine festivities on Sat., Dec. 9 happen along a street in Cambridge, Md. that’s rich in African-American history. Santa visit, fire pits, roast marshmallows, hot chocolate, maybe a DJ, etc. You should be able to find details on this Facebook feed. There is also a jazz concert that night by David B. • The Queen Anne’s Railroad Society is putting on a big Festival of Trains at the Kent Narrows Outlet Center in Chester, Md. on the weekends of Dec. 2-3 and 9-10. Details.

Fri., Dec. 15
• Downtown Elkton, Md. celebrates an Old-Fashioned Christmas on Fri., Dec. 15 with caroling, carriage rides, late shopping, and more throughout downtown. Details.

• The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra has a Holiday Brass Quintet concert on Fri., Dec. 15 in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Scroll to date for details. (Another show on Sun., Dec. 17 in Easton, Md.)

• Enjoy a Not So Silent Night in the Black Box Theatre at Salisbury (Md.) University when Mama’s Black Sheep and the Christine Havrilla Duo perform their versions of holiday favorites. Find the event on this calendar.

• The Wreaths Across America initiative places seasonal wreaths on the graves of veterans in cemeteries around the country. In recent years eightish Delmarva cemeteries have participated. • Santa’s Train Wonderland will be on display Sat./Sun. Dec. 16/17 at the Delmarva Discovery Museum in Pocomoke City, Md. The big man will be holding court, too. Details.

• The brass section of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra has a Holiday Brass show at the Palace Theatre in Cape Charles, Va. on Sat., Dec. 16. Details.

• Poplar Hill Mansion in Salisbury, Md. is serving up Tea with Santa and Mrs. Claus on Sat., Dec. 16. Go to the events calendar here for details.

• The Oxford (Md.) Volunteer Fire Company is throwing a Holiday Afternoon Tea on Sat., Dec. 16. Details.

• The Christmas Shoppe at Old Wye Mill in Wye Mills, Md. will be open on Sat., Dec. 2. The historic gem of a mill ground its first batch of grain back in the late 1600s. The date listing here was a little confusing when I posted this, but the small print says Dec. 16 is a go. Details.

• Rockwood Mansion in Wilmington, Del. Presents “Poetry in the Mansion: A Child’s Christmas in Wales” on Sat., Dec. 16. Details.

• Martinak State Park near Denton, Md. has a craftsy, kids-oriented Santa’s Magic Workship event on Dec. 16. Details.

• The John Dickinson Plantation near Dover, Del. has a fun craft project going on Sat., Dec. 16–visitors can create a gift tag by way of old-school “paper quilling.” Details.

• The Milton (Del.) Theatre is throwing a Polar Express Pajama Party on Sat., Dec. 16. Two screenings, one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

• The Church Hill (Md.) Theatre is doing “A Christmas Carol” on stage Dec. 15-17. Details.

• Scarf down Donuts with Santa at the Fifer Farm Store in Camden-Wyoming, Del. on Sat., Dec. 16. Details. Three other Saturdays, too–Nov., 25, Dec. 2, and Dec. 9.

• Tour historic Landsdowne Manor in Centreville, Md. on Sun., Dec. 17. Music and light fare. Details.
