In other parts of the world, the first chilly nights of autumn bring an end to outdoor festival season. But when cold winds start blowing here on Delmarva, it’s time to break out an extra layer or two and head out to slurp down bivalves and beer. There are dozens of oyster festivals between October and March–some outdoors, some indoors. Here are a few of the more notable options.

YMCA Camp Silver Beach Oyster Roast and Beach Bash
Sept. 19 in Jamesville, Va.
An afternool of local seafood, BBQ, and live music on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Proceeds support scholarships to summer camp for kids in need. Details.
Mount Harmon Bull & Oyster Roast
Oct. 3 in Earleville, Md.
This one is held under a big tent on a gorgeous old plantation along the Upper Eastern Shore backroads west of Cecilton, Md. The manor house should be open for tours. There will be bluegrass music along with raw, fried, roasted, and baked oysters. Details.
Chincoteague Oyster Festival
Oct. 10 in Chincoteague, Va.
This one will sell out early, so don’t procrastinate. The menu usually includes clams, raw oysters, steamed oysters, single fried oysters, oyster fritters, and clam fritters. No worries, there’s a salad bar. Details.
Soule Arnold Oyster and Clam Steam
Oct. 10 in Exmore, Va.
This bit of small-town bliss is held outdoors in a park along Exmore’s Main Street. Seaside oysters, clams, clam chowder, pulled pork, and lots more good stuff usually on the menu. Details.
The Rock Hall Fall Fest
Oct. 10 in Rock Hall, Md.
This street festival in a real-deal fishing community on the Upper Eastern Shore has music, crafts, vendors, and lots of oysters–shucked, fried, stewed, every which way. Details.
The Saxis Island Oyster Roast
Oct. 17 in Saxis, Va.
The main event here–an all-you-can-eat, BYOB affair on a Saturday afternoon in a real-deal watermen town on Pocomoke Sound–will be held under a pavilion at the Town Harbor. Live music, car show. There will probably be an after-party at Capt. E’s Hurricane Grill. You might want to practice your karaoke for that. Here is info.
Tilghman Island Day
Oct. 17 on Tilghman Island, Md.
In addition to boat docking, workboat races, oyster-shucking contest, and live music, there will be raw oysters, steamed oysters, oyster stew, oyster fritters, steamed crabs, crab cakes, crab soup, soft crabs, and fried clams. Non-seafood dishes as well. Details.
Snow Hill Seafood Festival
Nov. 1 in Snow Hill, Md.
This all-you-can-eat affair on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore features oysters fixed every which way, plus lots of other seafood treats prepared by area restaurants and civic groups. Live music, “bottomless” beer, more. Details.
Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum Oyster Festival
Nov. 7 in St. Michaels, Md.
On top of the title attraction, the museum’s annual bivalve bash will have an oyster stew contest, live music, and myriad activities geared kids and kids at heart all ages. Details.
Shell Shocked at Fager’s Island
Nov. 7 and Nov. 14 in Ocean City, Md.
Oysters and craft beers will be center stage at this annual event spread out over two autumn Saturdays. All you can eat oysters on the half shell plus non-bivalve seasonal dishes. Beer by Evolution Brewing Co. (Evo). Live music, too. Details.
The Brew and Oyster Brawl
Probably Nov. 14 in Easton, Md.
This one usually happens at the Tidewater Inn smack dab in the middle of the big town-wide Waterfowl Festival held annually in Easton, Md. Music and libations on top of the oysters and other Eastern Shore-inspired foods. Details were not up yet when I posted this, but they might be up by the time you see this at The Tidewater Inn or maybe on the Waterfowl Festival schedule.
Cape Charles (Va.) Historical Society Oyster Roast, maybe sometime in November
The Cape Charles Historical Society usually has an oyster roast in November, but details weren’t up when I was preparing this page. If it’s a got, info should appear at this events listing or on this Facebook page.
The Cambridge (Md.) Ice & Oyster Festival
Jan. 15 and 16, 2027
In addition to abundant oysters, this fun annual event will have lots of ice sculptures, libations, and family-friendly touches. They are promising bigger and better this year. Bundle up! Info here.
Barrier Islands Center Oyster Roast
Probably on Feb. 27, 2027 in Machipongo, Va.
Bundle up, as you’ll spend much of this February night outside under a tent (albeit one with heaters). Traditionally, the date is the last Saturday in February. Folks who work at local oyster houses or are otherwise part of the watermen community will handle the roasting of wild seaside oysters and the steaming of clams. Libations, music, auctions, etc. They haven’t posted 2027 details as of this writing. Fair warning: The event sells out quickly year in and year out. Here is where info will appear.
Snow Hill Oyster Roast
Late March or early April 2027 in Snow Hill, Md.
An all-you-can-eat affair in which local chefs come up with oyster-based dishes. Live band, bottomless beer, etc. When they are ready to announce 2027 detailsm they will show up on the events page here.
