. . . here’s where to go on that first perfect sun-kissed day of the season

  • In Virginia, find your way to the Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve. You’ll take a mile-or-so stroll through quiet maritime forestlands, then climb over gentle sand dunes, and make your way back down onto an isolated stretch of beach on the Chesapeake Bay. Bring a blanket and a snack. Afterwards, treat yourself to dinner in nearby Cape Charles!
  • In Maryland, head to Assateague Island National Seashore. Bring bikes for a peaceful flat ride, with no summer crowds or summer bugs. Just you and the wild ponies, the wading herons, and the soaring raptors. Afterwards, grab lunch or dinner in nearby Berlin!
  • In Delaware, go to the James Farm Ecological Preserve in Ocean View. You can stroll through through seven distinct natural habitats—from meadows to maritime forests. Be sure to get out to Pasture Point Cove and soak up that sunshine amid serene views of Indian River Bay. If you have a dog, he or she will be in heaven out there. Afterwards, Bethany Beach for ice cream!
