Here is your guide to the Christmas events, shows, tours, and exhibits during the 2021 holiday season. “Schellville” in Rehoboth Beach, Del.

Details
This magical Christmas village featuring decorated miniature houses is growing by leaps and bounds this year. Think train rides, a beer garden, the “maze of lights,” elf houses, and a “snow zone” where you should be able to get in a snowball fight no matter the weather forecast.

Christmas at the Nemours Estate in Wilmington, Del.

Christmas Carnival and Holiday Shoppers Fair, Ocean City, Md.

The carnival rides will be open at Trimpers during this event with crafts vendors, kids’ games and family-friendly activities.

Yuletide at Winterthur in Wilmington, Del.
Nov. 20 to Jan. 2

Bask in the high life of days gone by while touring Henry Francis du Pont’s former mansion, which will be decked out in full holiday splendor. Occasional live jazz performances, caroling, crafts workshops, and more.

Old Fashioned Christmas Market near Vienna, Md.
Nov. 20 and 21

Held along the countryside backroads at Layton’s Chance Vineyard & Winery, this event will feature 20-plus vendors, big sales on wine, a food truck, and more.

Holiday Lights and Santa Claus Express Train Rides in Wilmington, Del.

Starting on the day after Thansgiving, the historic Wilmington and Western Railroad goes into holiday mode with special steam-powered rides on these two themes.

Candyland Comes to Life in Easton, Md.

A life-sized “Candyland Adventure” is the centerpiece of the Talbot County Women’s Club project with kids’ crafts, raffles, and holiday house tours.

Dewey Sip and Shop in Dewey Beach, Del.

Billed as the largest creative holiday shopping experience in Delaware, this is all about handmade gifts and artistry. Kids’ activities, too.

Holiday Shoppers Fair in Ocean City, Md.

150-plus vendors. Unique merchandise as well as handmade products, nautical, candles, photography, florals, jewelry, ceramics.

For 87 years now, the Rescue Fire Company has been putting on a holiday model train show in this much-loved local tradition. Open daily in December, except for Christmas Day.

The Christmas Tree Village with Island Gnomes in Chincoteague, Va.
Dec. 2 to 17

Admire decorated trees donated by Island families in Legacy Pavilion at the Museum of Chincoteague. The “Gathering of Island Gnomes” is outside in the courtyard.

Christkindlmarkt in Denton, Md.

Gingerbread House Contest in Elkton, Md.

Holiday Light Display in Talbot County, Md.

A new drive-through holiday lights display at the Talbot Agricultural Center. Put on by the nonprofit Chesapeake Cats and Dogs shelter, which is looking to build a new mid-shore holiday tradition.

Christmas in St. Michaels in St. Michaels, Md.

The Holly Festival in Milton, Del.

75-plus arts & crafts vendors, Santa Claus, face painting for kids, a Cheer (aka Beer) Garden for adults. If you don’t know why Milton would have something called the Holly Festival, well, here’s your history lesson.

Christmas on Pine in Cambridge, Md.

The Groove City Black Heritage & Culture group presents a day of pop-up shopping and partying (DJ, raffles, caroling) along the town’s historic African-American “Main Street.”

Santa’s Train Wonderland in Pocomoke City, Md.

I don’t have a link to online info for this one, but plans call for Santa to arrive on the dock of Cypress Park by boat on Dec. 11 at 1pm. Train displays by the Pocomoke Area Model Train Club and holiday decor at the Delmarva Discovery Museum 10am-4pm both days. Info: 410-957-9963.

Wreaths Across America

Details.
Several Delmarva cemeteries participate in this effort to make sure that wreaths adorn veteran graves for Christmas. You can volunteer to help lay the wreaths. You can make a donation to support the charity that organizes things. And of course, you can visit one of the cemeteries during Christmas week to pay your respects.
